Microsoft Office365 finally introduced collaborative editing, just like google apps has had for years.
This is a way better way to work on document projects than google apps, because you get to work within Word or Powerpoint the whole way through. BUT, there are a few things you need to know.
Here's some tips on how to make it work for you.
1)You need the "autosave" switch to appear in the top left corner of your Microsoft apps. Everyone needs the latest version of Office. in one of your office programs like Word, go to the help menu and click 'check for updates'.
There are always _SO MANY_ MS updates. just keep clicking 'check for updates' until it tells you there are none.
2)Everyone should be signed in to office as their corporate Microsoft account. This means even if you already have the latest office, you need to make sure it is logged into your corporate Microsoft login. Once that's done, go to the 'Word' Menu in MS Word, and 'sign out' and then 'sign in' with your corporate account.
3) It really helps to be signed in to your corporate in your browser too. Go to http://login.microsoftonline.com and log in with your corporate MS account.
4)For all the sharing and collaborative editing to work, you must save your work to Onedrive - Corporate. (Where the word 'corporate' is replace with your corp's name.)
5)Press the share button in the top corner of your app. When you start typing your teammates names, they should autocomplete if they have completed the step one process.
If you are all sharing the document, but updates are not happening in real time, you are missing the autosave button.
If you don't see the "autosave" switch in the top left: If you are not on a 'subscription' payment plan for office, you should uninstall your old version, and install the subscription version.
If the Autosave button is stuck off, you are not saving a regular docx file. maybe you have accidentally saved as an Office 97 file.
If you have problems signing in to the office programs: try quitting all your MS apps and re-opening them.
If you don't see the Onedrive-Corporate in the save dialog: press the 'online locations' button in the save dialog
